Nicole and I were asked to come up with an experiment we thought would be beneficial for the world. Nicole had the idea to test out if there's really a difference between kid's toothpaste and adult toothpaste. We hypothesized that if people use an adult toothpaste versus a child's toothpaste, then they will have less plaque. I did a little research in the difference between the two and the main difference is that kid's toothpaste has less fluoride due to safety reasons. So we set off for our experiment! I was assigned to use the kid's toothpaste, which was Crest Kids Cavity Protection Sparkle Fun Flavored Toothpaste. Nicole was assigned to use the adult one, the Crest Pro Health Whitening Power. Both of us brushed our teeth twice a day for four weeks and recorded the amount of plaque before, during, and after.
As you can see in the pictures, after using a month of the kid's toothpaste my plaque went up about 11.3%. Whereas, Nicole using the adult tooth paste, plaque went down 10%. In the end of the day, our hypothesis was right and we recommend that kids should use kid's toothpaste and adults should use adult's toothpaste. Also, that 12 is a safe age for parents to transfer their children into adult toothpaste.
